Dear LHSD families,
In the early evening of May 15, 2023, the Logan Police Department and the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls from residents regarding a social media post containing a specific threat to the Logan-Hocking Middle School that was supposed to occur on the morning of May 16, 2023. The social media post was shared by numerous individuals throughout the evening, causing a high volume of calls to local law enforcement agencies. Due to the seriousness of the threat and concerns for the safety of both students and staff, the Logan-Hocking School District made the decision to suspend school for May 16th until the posted threat could be fully investigated.
Investigators from the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, the Logan Police Department and the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office immediately began investigating the incident. Through the investigative process, numerous local juveniles were interviewed, and several cell phones were taken as evidence.
As a result of the investigation, two female juveniles were arrested on the afternoon of May 16, 2023 on charges of making terroristic threats, with additional charges pending further investigation and review. The juveniles were transported to the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster and will be arraigned in Hocking County Juvenile Court at a later date.
Based on the outcome of the investigation, the Logan Police Department, Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Logan-Hocking School District Administration concurred there is no further threat to students or staff. The Logan-Hocking School District will resume their normal schedule starting Wednesday May 17, 2023.
We would like to thank all who took immediate action and spoke up about this threat. Students, parents and community members are reminded to immediately alert a district staff member or law enforcement if they see or hear something concerning.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Monte Bainter, Superintendent
