Holiday Wishes

Dear LHSD Families,

As we welcome the holiday season, I am grateful for the fantastic first half of the year we have all enjoyed together. Our students are excelling and doing incredible things inside and outside of the classroom and throughout the community.

One of our new initiatives is the student voice group, which allows students to represent and
communicate on behalf of their peers with our staff and administration. We look forward to all that we can continue to accomplish through open dialogue and working toward common goals in the best interest of our students. We also recently welcomed a district student support coordinator, Gail Erhardt. The student support coordinator connects students with resources and wellness programs within our district, helping our students fully utilize the resources available when they need them.

This year, LHSD has focused heavily on expanding our district themes of kindness and respect with the theme of I've Got Your Back. Our students and staff have embraced this theme in countless ways this school year. We have hosted numerous programs and events dedicated to this objective, in addition to our district supports already in place and building-specific initiatives. While it's not always easy to see the impact of kindness and inclusion, I am confident that these collective efforts are making a difference in many lives.

The holiday season is a great reminder to have one another's backs. This time of year can be
stressful and present mental health challenges. I want to take this opportunity to remind our
students that there are resources available should they need them during the holidays.

Students experiencing a mental health crisis should tell a trusted adult immediately or call the
National Mental Health Crisis Lifeline: 988. Help is available and you are not alone.

There will be a two-hour early dismissal on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Holiday break will begin on
Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023 and run through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. School will be back in
session on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024. I encourage you to also celebrate the season with friends
and family and enjoy much-deserved time to rest and recharge.

I look forward to reconnecting after the holidays and enjoying the start of 2024 together. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about the information provided.

Have a fantastic holiday season!
Sincerely,
Monte Bainter, Superintendent
