Dear LHSD families,
As you have likely seen in the news, there will be a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, with our region falling in the current predicted path from NASA. These models estimate that our area will experience near total darkness during the peak of the eclipse in the afternoon hours.
To prepare for an event of this magnitude, LHSD is in the process of purchasing special glasses for all students to wear during the eclipse. While this is an exciting learning experience meant to be witnessed, it is incredibly dangerous to look directly at the sun during an eclipse without protective eyewear. We want to make sure that everyone who chooses to watch the eclipse can do so safely.
We are also considering possible alterations to the school day due to the timing of the eclipse, which is predicted to occur during peak dismissal and transportation hours. We are determining the best course of action to keep our students, staff, transportation teams and families safe during this event.
Due to the changing models, we will continue to monitor the situation and keep families updated on the planned course of action as we know more in the coming weeks.
We appreciate your patience as we navigate this momentous event.
