As you may know, spring is here and that means state testing is right around the corner. Your student(s) should have received testing information from their school building. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.
I am confident in Chieftain Nation and applaud our students and staff for their incredibly hard work preparing together. With this in mind, testing season can cause stress and anxiety for students. Our staff would like to share a few strategies to help students feel rested, prepared and ready.
Share support
While it is normal to feel some stress ahead of a big exam, its important to remember that we have all been working together to prepare and believe greatly in each of our student's abilities. Students- just focus on doing the best you can. Parents - If you or your child are feeling concerned about specific subject areas, initiate conversations with their teacher(s) who can answer questions, strategize test-taking tips and study techniques to help your child feel more at ease.
Take time for wellness
Spring is a busy time for many families, with sports, extra curriculars and involvements outside of school. With testing added into the mix, its essential to make time for wellness. Getting outside for a family walk or playing a game together is great for reducing stress. In addition, we all do our best when we're well rested, so make sure to maintain a good sleep routine. As a reminder, free breakfasts are available at school to make sure each student can start the school day off full and focused.
Encourage one another
Students- remember to support and encourage one another. We all have different strengths, and no one is perfect. Give it your best attitude and effort and don't stress about the rest. Parents - remind your child that he/she is well prepared for their tests and provide encouragement throughout the testing season.
Good luck to each and every student as you tackle this testing season and all of the exciting activities that spring brings. Your teachers and administration believe in you!
Sincerely,
Monte Bainter, Superintendent
