students and adults at round table

Last evening, LHMS held its first annual Novels with Neighbors event with nearly 130 people in attendance. Back in January, eighth graders chose an adult to read a book with during the third quarter. They each read separately, then met up in a relaxed book-club style event at the school. Students had created projects inspired by their books and prepared questions to lead their neighbors through. Though initially nervous, once students got there and saw everyone else there too, they mingled and talked with others at their tables. Some students made board games, some made centerpieces, and some even produced podcasts. It was a wonderful evening to see everyone together and discussing literature over cookies and punch!
