Since 2018, most schools around the U.S. have been lucky enough to have police officers in their schools. At Union Furnace Elementary in Logan, Ohio, Officer Eddy has been taking care of students, staff, and the building.
Every morning, Officer Eddy stands outside of the school building and greets students with the choice of a fist bump or a high five. “It’s been great for me,” says Officer Eddy. He says he can be viewed as a “father and grandfather to these kids.” After he finishes working the front door, he proceeds to go help in classrooms and lunches during the day and even recess. He reveals, “They like to sit with me at lunch and come sit with me when I’m sitting at the picnic tables.” Officer Eddy views his position as “neat” and enjoys each day he gets to spend with the kids.
During Officer Eddy’s childhood, his father was a policeman, but he did not plan on taking this route. He went to Tri-County down in Marietta, and he went into carpentry for two years. Later, Eddy realized it wasn’t what he expected it to be, so he went to check out Hocking College and decided to join law enforcement. His first year, he was in Nelsonville, Ohio, as a part-time dispatcher for a year. In his second year, he became a certified police officer. “I never regretted it,” states Officer Eddy. Eventually, he retired but soon realized he was not ready to end his career. A few months later he worked in Buchtel, Ohio, and then Athens, Ohio, working and guarding doors at courtrooms.
When the badge is off, Eddy enjoys his time at home. Officer Eddy shares some of his favorite things to do: “During the summer, we love to camp.” He enjoys his time camping along with his wife and his son. He and his family tend to go camping every weekend or every other weekend. During the winter, he shares, “we don’t really do much.” However, he reveals, “We like to go out to eat quite a bit.” He enjoys nice dinners with his wife by his side. “Other than that, we just chill at home and just enjoy our time relaxing.”
Inside and outside of work, Eddy cares about and works hard for the community. When he goes to work, he enjoys all the moments he gets with the students and his co-workers at Union Furnace Elementary.
In conclusion, schools across the United States have cops who enjoy working and protecting students to make the schools a safer place, and Officer Eddy does just that.
