Treva Bolton, an English Language Arts Teacher at Logan-Hocking School
district, has been selected as Regional State Board District 6 Teacher of the Year.
A 23-year veteran, Bolton endeavors to inspire her students to excel within her English
Language Arts classroom. After graduating from Capital University with a Bachelor of Arts
degree, she embarked on her teaching career which has included teaching at urban, online, and
rural schools, giving her invaluable experiences and a deeper understanding of diverse student
needs.
Now in her fifth-year teaching for the Logan-Hocking School District at Logan High School, she
strives to make lessons come alive by seamlessly incorporating literature, informational texts,
and writing experiences that enable her students to flourish in the classroom and to find real-
world applications for the lessons. Students are supported in setting high academic goals for
themselves, and in persevering to achieve them. Bolton celebrates with students when they
express pride in completing something they did not believe they were capable of doing.
Throughout her career, Bolton has been an ardent advocate for public education. In addition to
teaching, Bolton serves as the Teacher Leader for the ELA Department and on the District
Teacher Leader committee. She helps create a positive school culture through her work with
Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (PBIS). She is particularly pleased to be a part of
PBIS Student Ambassadors, a new initiative at her school. Bolton was recognized with the
Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools (CORAS) Outstanding High School Teacher Award
in 2024.
Since its inception in 1964, the Ohio Teacher of the Year
program annually identifies exceptional teachers statewide celebrating their effective work in
and outside the classroom. The mission of the program is to provide opportunities for
professional learning to exemplary teachers as leaders and advocates for public education.
Selected teachers move through two levels of recognition: (1) the State Board District Teacher of
the Year as a regional recognition and (2) the Ohio Teacher of the Year as the state-level
recognition.
