The Logan High School Instrumental Music Department presented their annual Winter Concert in the Logan High School Theatre on Thursday, February 13, at 7:00 p.m.
Director of Bands is Lindsay Van Winkle. Assistant Directors are Ben Wright and Clarissa Bates with Sam Lawrence as Percussion Instructor and Casey Ulrick as the teaching intern from Ohio University.
The Seventh Grade Band opened the concert with “Quintus" by Larry Clark and “Blue Sky Horizon” by Randall Standridge.
The Eighth Grade Band performed “Darklands March” by Randall Standridge, “Enchanted” by Ryan Nowlin, “Black Diamond” by Robert Longfield, “Horkstow Grange” by Percy Grainger, arr. Michael Sweeney, and “Byzantine Dances” by Carol Brittin Chambers.
The Logan High School Jazz Band performed “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” by Duke Ellington, arr. Victor Lopez, “What is Hip?” by Tower of Power, arr. Paul Murtha, “Straighten Up and Fly Right” by Nat King Cole, arr. Stephen Bulla and “Tank!” (from Cowboy Bebop) by Yoko Kanno, arr. Paul Murtha.
The Senior High Concert Band performed “Steel Valley Transformation” by Michael Kamuf, “Orion” by Jan Van Der Roost, “Nevermore” by Brian Balmages and “Incantations” by Robert W. Smith.
Upcoming events for the Instrumental Music Department include the OMEA High School District Large Group Band Contest on March 7-8; Middle School Solo and Ensemble on April 5; Spring Musical on April 11-13; Annual Spring Band Concert on April 29; High School Band Banquet on May 7; Kings Island Music in the Parks Festival (8th grade band) on May 10; Graduation Ceremonies on May 23 (High School Band); Alumni Day Concert (Jazz Band) on May 24; Memorial Day Parade (High School Band) on May 26 and Summer Sectionals for High School Band May 27-30.
