Logan Director of Bands, Pam Price, announced that Senior Flutist, Ian Shields, Senior French Hornist Emily Chaffin, and Junior French Hornist Mason White have been selected to perform in the 2023 Ohio State University High School Honor Band Festival. The festival will feature 270 outstanding musicians from 125 high schools in one of three bands: Honors Wind Symphony, Scarlet Symphonic Band or Gray Symphonic Band.
The honor bands, under the director of Dr. Russel Mikkelson and Dr. Scott Jones, will perform on Sunday, January 15 beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Weigel Auditorium located on The Ohio State University Campus. The concert begins with the Scarlet Symphonic Band, followed by the Gray Symphonic Band and closes with the Honors Wind Symphony and is free and open to the public.
According to Price, “Band directors from across Ohio and neighboring states nominated over 750 outstanding musicians in their programs and students were chosen for participation based on instrumentation needs. Participants will enjoy master classes by Ohio State School of Music faculty, a concert by The Ohio State University Wind Symphony, and join other advanced high school musicians for an exciting weekend of high-level music making.”
